A successful technology startup is a fusion of a robust team, innovative ideas, winning products, funding, and collaborative efforts. SkilledUp Life realizing that these may not come in easy, decided to create a pool of talents willing to offer their services to startups in return for experience.

SkilledUp Life is a two-sided marketplace; on one hand, we’re helping volunteers gain experience by volunteering with technology startups. On the other, we’re helping startups build robust teams at a relatively low cost.

Today, we throw the spotlight on three (3) technology startups who through SkilledUp Life are increasingly driving towards their business goals.

Learnhall

Learnhall is a leading education services provider based in the United States of America. The company offers a wide range of learning solutions, including online courses, tutoring services, test preparation programs, and “customized corporate training. Professionals from Learnhall work with educators and industry experts to develop content and provide clients with the most relevant and up-to-date information.

Learnhall was at a point where the company needed to expand. The company needed hands on content creation, curriculum creation and review, and blog writing for the growth of their platform.

Learnhall used the pool of talents as leverage to achieve this goal and more. The company used the free talents to divert its marketing efforts from the USA to Nigeria. They were able to create a new value proposition as they learned more about the market needs in Nigeria and the broader African market.

Learnhall also leveraged talents to generate revenue. Since the platform provides e-learning services, they used volunteers who qualified as tutors to teach; and there you have it! Not only did the company harness free talent to run its business, but now the free talents have also become a part of the product.

In an interview with the CEO of SkilledUp Life, Michael Hoeft, Founder and CEO of Learnhall explained that;

SkilledUp Life has been transformational for my business.  I went from running a lifestyle US-based tutoring business to more of a global potentially high-growth business.  I fell in love with my Nigerian volunteer team and I decided to really push in the direction of helping their people get good early internships and jobs in tech and beyond.  We are very nascent, but we all share a passion for helping reduce the youth (15-34 year-olds) unemployment rate thereof ~40%.  I am working with ~15 volunteers, most of whom are in Lagos, Nigeria, and they are a delight to Volunteer with as we all share the same goal: to help train young adult Nigerians to get the jobs of the future.   ~ Michael Hoeft, Founder and CEO, Learnhall

In all, Learnhall discovered the true potential of SkilledUp Life’s talent base by aligning them with their unique requirements. Learnhall has indeed achieved greater efficiency in unearthing and utilizing the talents of its volunteers; while providing these talents the freedom to explore and learn on the role.

VR Superstore

VR Superstore is the leading provider of high-quality virtual and augmented reality products and services, including e-commerce solutions, business applications, and training programs. VR Superstore offers a vast array of products and solutions to help businesses transition into the world of Virtual Reality, Augmented Reality and the Metaverse.

VR Superstore’s main objective for subscribing to SkilledUp Life was to complete the development of their product, and also to facilitate the scaling of the company.

The startup after subscribing to SkilledUp Life was able to build teams spanning social media, project management, human resources, Information Technology, business development, and product management. The management staff was able to structure these teams and delegate tasks to them as well.

In the long term, VR Superstore looks at integrating volunteers into tasks like website design and development usually handled by the staff.

The company has integrated over 15 volunteers and notes the exceptional volunteers who have made significant contributions to helping the expansion of the company.

“The support and resources provided by the SkilledUp Life team for our membership tier met our expectations and beyond. We’re currently looking to increase our tier, hopefully for December 2023 – January 2024”

~ Mr. Dimitri Radom, CEO of VR Superstore

The company was also able to cut down costs and save on product research and transversal functions by utilizing SkilledUp Life’s pool of volunteers.

They managed to measure the need and importance of learning and developing content, particularly for vulnerable audiences such as fresh starters and individuals from less developed countries where access to digital technology might be challenging.

VR Superstore now looks forward to incorporating these observations into its core mission statements, which already focus on education. Their goal now will be to leverage their social impact by helping these communities reach access to digital technologies they would otherwise not have access to.
