About Me

Hi,

I am Shakir Akinbiyi. User Research has been like bread and butter for me. I’m certain you have encountered people who like to ask to know the reason for everything. I’m that guy: my friends called me “Mr. Why!”

That’s why I jumped both legs in in 2013 when I got to know about user research as a career path. I wrote a short article that I posted on LinkedIn about this which I called “The Amazing Shakman: My Original Story”. I have gone to learn more and more about user research at every opportunity ever since. I know how to identify business requirements and goals (what we need to learn) for a research project, determine the right methodology (how we need to learn), determine the right participants (from who we need to learn), etcetera, down to providing strategic initiatives through report writing, and even identifying gaps if and when there’s such in between a study, and course correct as necessary to move a project forward.

Taking up new challenges and learning new things every time is something I’m deeply passionate about (a total aside: I switched career from accounting to user research because of it). I do User Research, which involves a lot of project management activities, to work on exciting new projects month – in month – out. UX Research roles provide an opportunity for me to do work I love.
