With over 16 years of experience in multimedia journalism, digital verification, media relations, and development communications, Fiona Imbali is a highly skilled and well-rounded professional. She boasts hands-on expertise in media monitoring, information research, and program management. Fiona has served as Communications and Programs Administrator at the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS), Head of Communications and Coordinator of the Livelihoods Program at the Organisation of African Instituted Churches (OAIC), a pan-African NGO, and as a graduate consultant for Christian Aid UK. She has also worked as an independent journalist and has been published in South Africa’s Independent Newspapers and the Mail & Guardian, and distributed through the African News Agency. Fiona began her career as a radio journalist in Kenya and continues to mentor journalism students. I am looking for opportunities in strategic Communications.

Fiona was an associate at Well Made Strategy. She undertook assignments on strategic communications for Kenyan and international clients. Some of the assignments she undertook included: • Research uptake strategy for PhD students at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. • Research uptake and communication strategies for Population Council Inc. on Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) projects in Ethiopia and Uganda. • Crisis and communication strategies for the International Gorilla Conservation Programme (ICGP) • Climate Crisis communications for various clients (Population Council, IGCP, FSD-K) • Communications review and Case studies on Inclusive Finance in Kenya in the agricultural sector for the Financial Sector Deepening Kenya (FSD-K). • Managing social media accounts for Well Made Strategy (WMS) and Regional Education Learning Initiatives (RELI).

Communications and Programmes Administrator

African Centre for Technology Studies

Fiona held the dual role as the Communications and Programmes Administrator for the Climate Resilient Economies programme (CRE) at ACTS. She oversaw the development and implementation of the communications strategy at ACTS while also responsible as an administrator for 14 projects under CRE. She was also in charge of managing the Africa Sustainability Hub (ASH) domiciled at ACTS. ASH is a consortium of African and UK leading research and policy think tanks on sustainability. Key Achievements: • I was part of a team tasked by the National Treasury and Planning Ministry in Kenya to write a discussion paper on Climate Finance landscape and infrastructure in Kenya. The paper and associated policy brief titled ‘Review of Climate Finance in Kenya: A look into the future’ can be found here. It provides an institutional analysis of climate finance in Kenya and recommendations on how to enhance climate finance. • Moderated a panel discussion of African Union Member states on the Green Climate Fund (GCF) in Abuja Nigeria. • Developed communication products for an African Union workshop on the Green Climate Fund (GCF) • Organised an East African Policy maker’s workshop on the Climate Relevant Innovation-system Builders (CRIBS) in Kenya. • Led the ACTS team in organizing an International Social Science Council workshop in Kenya that brought together top scholars on international development from 5 continents. This was in collaboration with the University of Sussex. Communications and Livelihoods Coordinator

Fiona held the dual role as the Head of Communications and Coordinator of the Livelihoods Programme. Aside from the key tasks in the communication portfolio, Fiona was also responsible for strategy development; cross country research and training; design of smart strategies and implementation of appropriately scaled responses to hunger, poverty, governance, socio-economic development; food and nutrition security as well as humanitarian issues in the countries of implementation (Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi). She also supported the office of the General Secretary in corporate communication, fundraising and strategy. Key achievement: Publication of a development report on the Post-2015 agenda on Financing for Development.
