Elise Singleton

My name is Elise Singleton. I am English/French and currently living in Germany. I studied a foreign languages degree with a major in International Business. I worked as a Customer Service Employee in Ikea and also had 1 year of experience working as a Customer Service and Logistics Operator in a Spanish Start-up.

I have been dreaming of working in HR for a few years now, and without any studies or experience in HR, it has been quite complicated to get noticed by the companies. I’ve dreamt of working in an HR company or within the HR Department of an International company. I would like to focus more on HR Administration, team building and recruiting. I have been looking to do an unpaid internship in HR for a few months as all I needed was a bit of experience in HR to make me a step closer to acquiring my dream job. SkilledUp Life was exactly what I was looking for and came at the right moment.

I have been Volunteering at SkilledUp Life as an HR Team Leader for 2 months now and so far the experience has been great! I didn’t have any expectations when I first started but I have to say I’ve learned a lot more than I thought I would. Up until now, I have been in charge of creating an HR Team, onboarding new Volunteers, taking care of the HR procedures, tracking the in-coming and out-going Volunteers, creating succession planning, identifying skill gaps within the team and supervising secondary HR tasks.

I have been very involved in the Team engagement too, making sure all Volunteers know they have someone they can talk to. I am loving every second of it, and it has helped me gain more confidence in myself for my future job! And thanks to my experience at SkilledUp Life, I have found an amazing job opportunity in an International Company in their HR department!

I have to say I have learnt so much. I have been able to build my own HR Team under my terms and conditions and at my paste. I also developed the recruitment procedure and the administration organization and do the same for the other teams. As I mentioned previously, I have enhanced my self-confidence as I have been able to communicate brilliantly with people from all around the world via video-call.

I have had the opportunity to interview many candidates, onboard them and make them feel welcome in our team. What I have most enjoyed about SkilledUp Life is the organizational side of things. When I first started working with SkilledUp Life, all documents needed to be created, formatted and developed. I was able to add this experience to my CV and I have been congratulated by many recruiters on this experience! Volunteer work always looks good on a professional profile.

After about 2 months of working with SkilledUp Life I was contacted by a very big American company offering me a job opportunity as a Talent Acquisition Coordinator. I am therefore so thankful to SkilledUp Life as I am now a lot more confident to start a new adventure in what has been my goal for a few years. I hope to develop all the skills I gained at SkilledUp Life in my new job.

I will be forever thankful and will not hesitate to join the SkilledUp Life Team in the future as I really think SkilledUp Life gives you the opportunity to develop yourself in what you really want to do.
