About Me
My name is Melissa Akinyi. I come from Kenya. I went to the University of Nairobi and acquired a diploma in Business Development and French and also a degree in Political Science in Communication.
Afterwards, life came at me at a rush and so to manage my bills I took up the first job that was available which was in customer service, cashiering and administration. I worked at the Alliance Francaise de Nairobi in my home country of Kenya for 7 years and was in charge of student registration, inventory and general administration of the admissions office. I enjoyed my job, however after 7 years, I felt that I needed a new challenge and so the next job I got was as a sales officer in charge of the francophone region where I travelled to francophone speaking countries in Africa.
Here I was to get clients for online banking products that we sold. However, I did not do so well and so I was dismissed from this position after 2 years. I needed a break from employment and so I went into self-employment by turning my car into a taxi. I enjoyed the job initially as it gave me a good eye view of the entire spectrum of a business from client acquisition to product design and delivery to managing profits and other business expenses.
After a few years, my car got worn out and so I could not continue with the business, I was lucky to get married at this stage and so my husband has been my pilar and by the grace of God, has sustained my financially for all this while. This year, he bought me a laptop and told me to figure out how to get back to creating an income so I can add on to the family’s finances.
Clueless, I went on to tiktok and stambled on the video of a lady who guided me here and I found this place welcoming. My experience has mainly been in customer service, however I would like to add on more skills like copywriting, using the communication degree that I acquired in campus and other volunteer services that will be required.
I do hope that my limited experience in the various fields that I will chose will not be considered a hindrance. My availability and eagerness to learn is what I currently and do hope to be of great value to the various organisations that I will encounter on here.
