Hello, my name is Yumnah. I’m a 23-year-old Sri Lankan, whose passion is working in Human Resource since my schooling. And that’s why I choose to be part of the Chartered HRM program, which would help me to gain knowledge to be a better HR professional. I’m currently in my second year of the program. In addition to HR, I’ve been following several digital marketing programs as well.

I was also interested in gaining practical experience with what I had learned through those educational programs and self-learning. As a result, I began looking for unpaid internships and volunteer opportunities. I was able to work as a recruiting intern at Webmasters4SEO and as a Content Writing Volunteer at Compaira.

Despite the fact that these two opportunities are in completely different fields, I learned the main difference between an internship and a volunteer opportunity.

An internship allows you to gain experience in one subject, whereas a volunteer opportunity allows you to gain knowledge on overall performance
in that area.

I also want to mention that I received an amazing opportunity as a volunteer content writer at Compaira through SkilledUp Life, and I’m having a great time learning and growing my content writing skills.

As a result, when I decided to volunteer in HR, my first thought was to look for a position in HR at SkilledUp Life. And, yes, I was fortunate enough to be given the opportunity.

I’ve been volunteering with SkilledUp Life’s HR team for a month now. My only expectation when I begin is to learn and grow. and I must say that I have learned a lot, including new perspectives, and I have grown with many more new skills than I had anticipated until now.

So, while discussing what activities I have been involved in up to this point, I could mention a few responsibilities that I have been in charge of, such as Preparing end-of-term graceful completion of volunteer activities, monitoring and reporting progress, and arranging testimonials and reviews.

I also want to acknowledge and thank the SkilledUp Life team for their support. Within the team, there is always a high level of engagement and support. It’s always a pleasure to be a part of such a wonderful team. I’ve learned a lot more than I expected, and I’ve gained a better understanding of how the theoretical knowledge I gained through my education would be applied in practice.

While focusing on my skills, I noticed that I have made significant progress in many areas, including communication and teamwork ability. To be honest, I was worried about many rejections from jobs and internships in the past, which caused me to doubt myself. But, thanks to Skilled Up Life, I am now recognized as a qualified candidate in a variety of organizations.

And I’m confident that with the experience I’m gaining through SkilledUp Life, I’ll be able to land the job I’ve always wanted. Furthermore, volunteering with SkiiledUp Life was one of the best decisions I made for my career.
