Elise Singleton

Hey Everyone, it’s Elise here!

I’m writing this little post to let you know that my adventure with SkilledUp Life has come to an end. It’s already been 3 months and I must say that the last 3 months have been like an emotional roller coaster for me. In 3 months, I have been through 2 moves, applied for hundreds of jobs, gained experience volunteering for SkilledUp life, went through many Interviews, moved to another country, found my dream flat and eventually found my dream job.

If you ask me how I was 6 months ago, I would have told you that I was lost, nervous and afraid of the future. I had already finished my studies, worked for 2 years and I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life. My dream was to work in HR but with no professional experience or studies in HR I was ready to forget about that idea. I was convinced that it was going to be impossible to find a good opportunity in HR.

So, this is me, 6 months back, looking for HR Master degrees, courses, HR professionals, YouTube videos, LinkedIn Learning, unpaid internships, literally anything that could help me gain some HR experience. I knew this was for me, the more research I did the more I knew this was what I was meant to do.

3 months ago, SkilledUp Life contacted me, offering me an opportunity in HR, asking me if I would like to help them create an HR Team. I didn’t even have to think about it.

We are now 3 months later, and my 3-month Volunteer Agreement has come to an end. I am now working in the Talent Acquisition Team for an International company. I have learnt so much as SkilledUp Life and I am able to transfer all those skills to my current job.

I have gained so much confidence thanks to all the Interviews I coordinated, I learnt how to manage HR procedures and an A-to-Z recruitment process. I have perfected my organizational skills and my communication skills. I have also learnt that Teamwork is the best work. I have loved working within an international team. Our team meetings were always really productive, and everyone always had amazing Ideas.

Again, I will say thanks to SkilledUp Life for giving me this opportunity. I would recommend this experience to anyone going through any kind of change in their career or any students looking to gain professional experience. With a Volunteering experience at SkilledUp life, you can only gain from it. You have nothing to lose. I always say to myself: no matter what you do, where you go or who you meet, take in anything there is to take, constantly learn from your experiences, listen to people, show interest and that’s how you’ll become the perfect version of yourself.
