Michael Hoeft

I had the privilege to catch up with Michael Hoeft recently, whose tech startup has been transformed since joining SkilledUp Life. Prior to joining SkilledUp Life, Michael focused on building an EdTech company to target the US market. Since joining SkilledUp Life, his focus has shifted to reducing high unemployment in Nigeria through his new tech startup, Learnhall.

The Company

I am Michael Hoeft, Founder at Learnhall, and we are a US private tutoring company that has shifted largely to online education for Nigerians vying for early-career internships and jobs. Before joining SkilledUp Life, the company was a decent, reputable, profitable lifestyle business.

Expectations

SkilledUp Life was a relatively new concept at least online based on my experience so I wasn’t sure what to expect.  Yet I knew that SkilledUp Life could potentially be a good web resource.

Reality

SkilledUp Life has vastly over-delivered as they have an excellent onboarding process for their volunteers and they help startups like mine post quality ads and then they let us make the connection and see if it’s a match from there.

SkilledUp Life has been transformational for my business.  I went from running a lifestyle US-based tutoring business to more of a global potentially high-growth business.  I fell in love with my Nigerian volunteer team and I decided to really push in the direction of helping their people get good early internships and jobs in tech and beyond.  We are very nascent, but we all share a passion for helping reduce the youth (15-34 year-olds) unemployment rate thereof ~40%.  I am working with ~15 volunteers, most of whom are in Lagos, Nigeria, and they are a delight to Volunteer with as we all share the same goal: to help train young adult Nigerians to get the jobs of the future.
